Campaign Status 2017
NCCAOM in partnership with Echo Media Group, a PR and marketing communications agency, working hard to increase the awareness of acupuncture and Oriental medicine and the visibility of the NCCAOM certified Diplomates. Below, you can find detailed monthly status updates on our Public Education campaign activities.
Echo conducted and composed extensive research on alternative health services like chiropractic, physical therapy, naturopathic medicine, and dry needling services and their roles in preventing opioid addition.
The President’s Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis Research
Due to the prevalence of opioid addiction, Echo developed research and a timeline of the President’s Commission on Combating Drug Addiction and the Opioid Crisis. This material will support NCCAOM as it aims to raise the awareness of acupuncture as an effective non-drug therapy for pain.
Acupuncture Media Opportunity
Echo coordinated a media opportunity between NCCAOM Certified Diplomate William Reddy and Wellbe, a health and wellness media outlet.
AOM Day 2017 Proclamation Letter
To prepare for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Day, Echo revised a Proclamation Letter to President Donald J. Trump addressing AOM Day 2017.
Florida State Oriental Medical Association Conference
To support NCCAOM at the 2017 FSOMA Conference, Echo conducted media interviews with NCCAOM Certified Diplomates and leaders present at the conference.
Echo developed a NCCAOM Talking Points document that was to be distributed at the conference.
Echo continued media relations outreach to local outlets in Florida to garner interest in the NCCAOM media demonstrations taking place at the 2017 FSOMA Conference.
Acupuncture and Opioids
To promote acupuncture as an effective treatment for opioid addiction, Echo coordinated an interview opportunity for NCCAOM Certified Diplomate Dr. Iman Majd with News 96.5 in Orlando. His interview material was later used by the station for a live format segment.
Facebook AD Campaigns
Throughout the month of August, Echo continued to run and monitor two Facebook campaigns that were designed to target consumers who visited the NCCAOM Resource Center and drive them to the Find a Practitioner web page. Please click here for Facebook Ad Campaign Status.
Bed-Wetting Media Opportunity
Echo coordinated a media opportunity between NCCAOM Certified Diplomate Dr. Carmion Pope and First Time Parent magazine. On behalf of NCCAOM, Dr. Carmion Pope wrote an article that discussed how acupuncture and herbs halt bed-wetting in children.
WebMD – Acupuncture for Fibromyalgia
Echo fulfilled a media inquiry from a WebMD writer interested in learning about acupuncture. To support the writer’s article on acupuncture for fibromyalgia, Echo also introduced a potential interview opportunity with a NCCAOM Diplomate.
Florida State Oriental Medical Association Conference
To prepare for the 2017 FSOMA Conference, Echo developed and distributed a pitch inviting local media in Florida to attend the NCCAOM media event.
Echo helped NCCAOM develop a set of questions for internal interviews with NCCAOM diplomates attending the FSOMA Conference.
Bell’s Palsy Media Advisory
To promote acupuncture as an effective treatment for Bell’s palsy, Echo developed and distributed a media advisory offering national expert sources for any media stories regarding acupuncture treatment of Bell’s palsy.

Joint Commission Press Release
Echo developed a press release to announce The Joint Commission introducing a revised Pain Assessment and Management Standards, for Accredited Hospitals, to Include Use of Non-Pharmacologic Treatments and Strategies. The press release was distributed and picked up by several publications.
Bed-Wetting Media Pitch
Echo developed a media pitch regarding how Chinese herbs and acupuncture can help children who wet the bed. First Parent has requested a byline article for their September issue. Echo will track clip.

To participate in Healthy Vision Month, Echo distributed a pitch on behalf of NCCAOM detailing reasons why Americans should turn to acupuncture and oriental medicine to maintain and improve eye health.
Upon learning that the FDA now proposes doctors learn about acupuncture for pain management, Echo developed and distributed a timely media alert on the topic.
Academy of Diplomates Board Chair Announcement
Echo developed and began outreach for a press release announcing Iman Majd as the new Board Chair for the Academy of Diplomates.
Facebook Ad Campaigns
Echo developed a Facebook ad campaign strategy and plan, which will be implemented in June. The campaigns are designed to drive traffic to NCCAOM’s website.
Echo conducted follow up pitching for the release that was distributed in March and secured interview opportunities for Whitney Fessler.
Wyoming’s First Acupuncture Law
Echo developed a press release to support the announcement of Wyoming’s first acupuncture law and conducted local media outreach.
Stress Awareness Month
To participate in Stress Awareness Month, Echo distributed a pitch on behalf of NCCAOM detailing reasons why Americans should turn to acupuncture and oriental medicine to soothe their job-related stress.
Board Chair Announcement
Echo drafted a press release announcing Afua Bromley as the new board chair for NCCAOM and pitched it to local market media.
Response to PBS Article
Echo worked with David Miller to provide a response to an inaccurate article published by PBS on the topic of acupuncture.
May – Healthy Vision Month
To participate in Healthy Vision Month, Echo developed a media pitch touting the benefits acupuncture can have on eye health.
May – Mother’s Day
To tap into Mother’s Day, Echo recommended pursuing the angle of infertility and developed a pitch on how acupuncture can increase chances of pregnancy.
2017 overview plan, including pitch angles for the year was created.
ACP Lower Back Pain Media Alert
Echo created a timely media alert in response to the new guidelines established by the American College of Physicians reinforcing the fact that acupuncture is medically effective for the treatment of chronic pain.
Echo presented and began organizing three contributed article opportunities, which will go live in March 2017.
The article was promoted on mainstream Internet media channels to allow more readers to discover NCCAOM on their own via trustworthy news sources. Links to NCCAOM’s PESD release appeared as recommendations on the web’s largest content publishers including CNN, Fox News and ESPN.
NICE Guidelines on Acupuncture Press Release
Echo distributed a press release titled, “The New National Institute for Health and Care Excellence Guidelines on Acupuncture: Wrong on Evidence, Wrong on Ethics”
The distribution included key evidentiary support as to why NICE’s most recent findings against acupuncture as a suitable alternative treatment method for pain is not an overall accurate report.
The distribution included an infographic titled, “Acupuncture: A Key Solution for Treating America’s Painkiller Epidemic” developed by NCCAOM, American Society of Acupuncturists and Acupuncture Now Foundation.

The Science of Cupping Content Distribution Campaign:
To further extend NCCAOM’s featured content Echo Media Group worked with a content distribution service to amplify the byline article The Science of Cupping located on NCCAOM’s website.
The article was promoted on mainstream Internet media channels to allow more readers to discover NCCAOM on their own via trustworthy news sources. Links to NCCAOM’s The Science of Cupping content appeared as recommendations on the web’s largest content publishers including sites like CNN.com, Fox News and Time Magazine.
Echo Media Group promoted NCCAOM’s The Science of Cupping article via a content distribution service. Echo Media Group drove 3,731 consumers to view the article on the NCCAOM website and garnered 1.4 million impressions.
Echo Media Group drafted a press release to announce the new NIH study which validated the effectiveness of acupuncture and other non-drug health therapies for pain. The release was distributed via wire service and internal media lists.
Echo Media Group updated the opioid expert source sheet to include the NIH chronic pain study and the letter that the US surgeon general Murthy sent to all physicians. Murthy is asking doctors to educate themselves on the addictiveness of painkillers. He is also asking physicians to screen the people they say for opioid abuse disorder and provide them with “evidence-based treatment.”
NCCAOM was featured in The Huffington Post. The article drove 132 people to the NCCAOM website.
NCCAOM was featured in Runners World. The article drove 72 people to the NCCAOM website.

Echo Media Group contacted all major TV news stations including Fox News, NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, daily newspapers throughout the United States including USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, national radio programs, online news sites and national health magazines and provided two NCCAOM board members available for interviews to discuss cupping and why it is important to find a NCCAOM certified practitioner. Echo also provided each news station with a link to the NCCAOM cupping page that explains the process and provides links to articles about cupping in peer-reviewed journals and publications. NCCAOM conducted interviews with CBS News Health, FOX News Health and WebMD.
Echo Media Group drafted a press release to announce that NCCAOM secured an independent Standard Occupational Code (SOC) for Acupuncturists from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Press release was distributed via the wire and internal media lists. The BLS release alone drove 22 people to the NCCAOM website.
NCCAOM was mentioned in a US News Health report. The NCCAOM mention in the article drove 101 website visits.
Echo Media Group interviewed NCCAOM spokesperson Rhonda Lewis and her patient, David Herrera who recently broke three national powerlifting records at the American Powerlifting Federation (APF) National Championship. He attributes his success to his training schedule, coaches, determination and the acupuncture and Oriental medicine treatment he has been receiving from NCCAOM-certified practitioner Rhonda Lewis. The media story was sent to local media and powerlifting publications. Several media outlets conducted interviews and featured NCCAOM in their articles.
Echo Media Group worked closely with NCCAOM spokesperson Bill Reddy to develop an expert source sheet regarding the topic of opioid abuse and the opioid overdose epidemic taking place in the United States. The expert source sheet addresses how acupuncture is a legitimate alternative to chronic pain management and was distributed to national media outlets throughout the United States.
